Off to Ireland!

Wednesday, July 12, 2017

With the heat tipping the 90s in Louisville, Ed and I are glad to be off to the cooler climate of Ireland tomorrow for 10 days.

This time we are on our own -- with me as the primary tour guide. We will split our stay between Cork and Dublin, with city tours and day trips from each location. No golf for Ed or hiking for me -- just touring the highlights that we have identified through research and the advice of friends.

Our stay in Cork will include day trips to the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry.  On other days we will explore the harbor city of Cobb, the colorful village of Kinsale and, of course, Blarney Castle.

The last 5 days we will spend most of our time touring the numerous sights in Dublin along with a side trip to Waterford.  One of the more unusual day trips will be to Newgrange, a 5,000 year old prehistoric monument, still intact, which is perfectly aligned to celebrate the winter solstice.

Evenings will be spent in pursuit of Irish music and theater, with a number of bookings already confirmed, and open time for serendipitous entertainment.

Much to see and do so we are anxious to be off!
